A standard tuning job is essential for keeping your piano in tune. All technicians recommend at least one tuning yearly, but for residents of Indiana I highly encourage two tunings a year to keep up with the bipolar weather swings.

A pitch raise is when the piano becomes so flat it needs a special tuning to bring it up to pitch before the standard tuning job. This is common with pianos that haven't been tuned in a few years or more. Strings have the unfortunate potential to break during this process, especially on pianos that have gone extremely flat. Keeping your piano tuned yearly should prevent the need for a pitch raise.
